Revelation 8:7-9
The 1st and 2nd angels sound to bring judgment on the Church!
By Brother Mike (4-30-20; 40 minutes)

7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up .
8 And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood
9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed .

INTRODUCTION

In this study of Revelation 8:7-9, the 1st and 2nd angels sounded their trumpets to bring judgment against the Church. The 1st angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up. And in relation to this 1st angel that sounded, we ask, what is it symbolic of? And what is this hail and fire mingled with blood that were cast upon the earth? And what does the third part of the trees and all green grass that was burned up symbolize? The answers to these questions and more will be revealed in this study.

But, then, we are told that the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; and the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed. And with relation to this 2nd angel that sounded, what is it symbolic of? And what does this great mountain burning with fire that was cast into the sea represent? And, finally, what does the third part of the sea that became blood, and the third part of the creatures that were in the sea, and had life that died, and the third part of the ships that were destroyed, picture or portray? The answers to these questions and more will be revealed in this study.

Now, may our Lord, Jesus Christ, enlighten us to His Word, amen.

Revelation 8:7
:

7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up

In this verse, we first read, The first angel sounded. This first angel is one of the seven angels whom we learned in our last study were, as a whole, a picture of the totality of the elect, and the seven trumpets that they were given, we learned, pictured the totality of God's voice, which is one and the same as the totality of God's Word. Thus, this first angel who sounded represents the elect as they blew their trumpet (declared God's Word of judgment against the house of God) during the Great Tribulation from May 21, 1988 to when Judgment Day began on May 21, 2011. We know that their declaration was that of judgment upon all the churches and congregations because of what we will learn as we continue in our verse.

Now, our verse continues by saying, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood. Hail and fire both represent judgment in the Bible. Remember when Yahweh brought His judgment upon Egypt when Pharaoh would not let Moses and his people go to worship their God in the wilderness? We read,

Exodus 9: 22 And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch forth thine hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beast, and upon every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt .
23 And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt .
24 So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation .
25 And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field, and brake every tree of the field
26 Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no hail

Notice how this judgment upon Egypt was that of hail and fire as we just read that the LORD sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt. So, there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. Thus, we can clearly see that hail and fire together have to do with judgment. So, when our verse says, and there followed hail and fire when the first angel sounded, what followed was judgment. To put it another way, when the elect declared God's Word (they blew their trumpet) during the Great Tribulation, they brought about judgment, and they first brought about judgment upon the house of God because the Word of God says that judgment must begin at the house of God (1Peter 4:17).

Now, we are told that this judgment (the hail and fire) that the elect declared (they blew their trumpet) against the house of God was mingled with blood. What does this mean? Since blood is commonly known in the Bible to symbolize death, that this judgment was mingled with blood means that it was mingled with death. Yes, this judgment that the elect declared against the house of God during the Great Tribulation from May 21, 1988 to May 21, 2011 revealed death to them; not physical death, but spiritual death wherein God would no longer eternally save anyone in or through the local churches around the world. Indeed, all the elect in the churches were called to come out from all the churches while those who remained in the churches came under the wrath of God with no possibility for any of them to become eternally saved in Jesus Christ. Yes, they all remained dead in their sins and trespasses and were fed a strong delusion that they would believe the lie that they were worshipping Christ when, in reality, they are worshipping the counterfeit Christ, the Antichrist, Satan who was given rulership over all the churches as judgment against them beginning on May 21, 1988 when the Great Tribulation of judgment began and the Church Age came to an end. The point being that the judgment which came upon the house of God brought spiritual death to all those who remained in it because there was no more light of salvation within the churches, and this is why it was said to have been mingled with blood.

Next, we are told that this judgment (the hail and fire mingled with blood) were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up. What does the third part of trees refer to? Once we know this, we will know just who or what this judgment is against. First, trees in the Bible are symbolic of people. For instance, Jesus says in Luke 3,

Lu 3:9 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire .

Obviously, the trees to which the axe is laid unto the root of are people. And, when we read in Jude 1:12, These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots, the trees whose fruit withers are clearly people. And we could give many other examples in scripture to show that trees in the Bible are often representative of people, but let's move on to what the third part of the trees symbolize.

When we look up the term third part in the Bible, we read in Zechariah 13,

Zec 13:9 And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God .

Here, the third part which is brought through the fire and refined as silver and tried as gold are God's people who we spiritually know are the elect in Jesus Christ. So, when our verse says that judgment mingled with blood (death) were cast upon the earth, and the third part of the trees was burned up, are we being taught that this judgment cast upon the earth burned up the elect of the people? Absolutely not! For God has not appointed us unto wrath (1Thes. 5:9) as Christ came under judgment for us on the cross in 33 AD. So, what are we being taught here? We must remember that with God's people, there is an external representation of them, and there is an internal representation of them. The external representation of the elect was the local churches and congregations that we saw around the world, but the internal representation of the elect was the elect themselves who were once internal to the external representation, which was the churches and denominations throughout the world. To put it another way, there was an external Church, which consisted of the elect and the non-elect in combination within the Church, and there is an eternal Church, which consists of only the true elect who were hidden amongst many non-elect in the Church. And it was not the eternal Church which came under the wrath of God, but it was the external Church that came under the judgment of God, for judgment must begin with the house of God (1Peter 4:17). Thus, when we read that judgment was cast upon the earth, and a third part of the trees was burned up, it is being revealed that the local churches and congregations around the world where the true elect were once a part of were burned up. And, in that they were burned up does not mean that they were physically burned up, but spiritually burned up by the judgment of God, which we know, according to the Biblical Timeline, began on May 21, 1988 when the Great Tribulation of judgment came upon all the churches, and this judgment on all the churches continued to May 21, 2011 when judgment not only continued upon all the churches, but it then came upon the entire world as well with no possibility for eternal salvation ever again. Indeed, spiritually speaking, the Church Age came to an end on May 21, 1988 when all the churches began to be spiritually destroyed and were given over to the counterfeit Christ, the man of sin, the Antichrist, Satan who was given rule over them as judgment against them (For more on this, listen to 2Thes. 2:1-11 - the Man of Sin ).

Now, our verse concludes by saying, and all the green grass was burned up. Grass or green grass, once again, has to do with God's people. For instance, we read in Revelation 9,

Re 9:4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads .

Now, in that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing ...; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads, we are being shown that since the men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads are not the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, then the men which do have the seal of God in their foreheads (the elect) are the grass of the earth or any green thing. So, in that all the green grass was burned up beginning on May 21, 1988 means that God's people were spiritually burned up, and this, once again, is speaking about the spiritual destruction of all the Christian churches worldwide when the elect were spiritually killed (silenced) in them as all the churches were taken over by the false gospels and teachings of the counterfeit Christ, the Antichrist, the Man of Sin, Satan. Indeed, all the Christian churches around the world became the synagogues of Satan without them even realizing it, for God sent them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: that they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness (2Thes. 2:11-12).

Revelation 8:8

8 And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood . . .

Here, we are told that the second angel sounded. As with the first angel, the second angel is a representation of the elect who blew their trumpet (they declared the Word of God) during the time of the Great Tribulation to bring judgment upon the house of God, namely judgment upon all the churches throughout the world. And, when this second angel sounded (when the elect declared the Word of God during the Great Tribulation), as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea. What does this great mountain burning with fire symbolize?

We already know that fire is very commonly symbolic of judgment in the Bible so that this great mountain burning with fire can be viewed as a great mountain of judgment. Yet, what does this great mountain represent? Back in Revelation 6:14 , we learned that a mountain symbolizes a kingdom. Therefore, this great mountain of judgment is a great kingdom of judgment. Yet, what great kingdom of judgment is it? We quickly learn the answer to this question, in Revelation 21 where we read of the great mountain (the great kingdom) once again. There we read,

Re 21:10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain [kingdom], and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God . . .

Thus, we see that a great mountain (kingdom) has to do with that great city, the holy Jerusalem, and immediately we recognize that this great mountain (kingdom) being referred to is the great kingdom of God, which consists of the great city, the holy Jerusalem; not the physical city of Jerusalem, but the heavenly Jerusalem as we read in Hebrews 12:

Hebrews 12:22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels ,
23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect
24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel .

So, now, returning to our verse, the great mountain burning with fire is the great heavenly kingdom of God that brings judgment. It is this kingdom that was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood. Obviously, this is not talking about the physical sea, so we must search in the Bible to discover what the sea symbolizes. When we do this, we find that the sea represents the world or the unsaved (wicked) in the world as we can see in the following two verses. First, we read,

Ps 98:7 Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein

Here, we see that the sea and the fulness thereof is being likened to the world and they that dwell therein. And then, we read in Isaiah 57,

Isa 57:20 But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt .

Thus, we see that the wicked of the world are likened to the sea. So, we can conclude from both these verses that the sea symbolizes the world, or the unsaved (wicked) of the world, or we could say that the sea symbolizes the world of the unsaved. And now, returning to our verse, when our verse says, a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood, we are being told that the great kingdom of God that brings judgment was cast into the world, or into the world of the unsaved. And, since the kingdom of God consists of the elect, we can say that it was the elect who were cast into the sea (the world) to bring judgment against them.

But now, we are told that this great kingdom burning with fire (the elect burning with judgment) that was cast into the sea (into the world) resulted in the third part of the sea [becoming] blood. The third part, as we learned previously in this study, refers to the external Church, namely all the various local churches and congregations around the world to which the elect were once a part of until they finally obeyed Christ's command to depart out from them during the Great Tribulation from May 21, 1988 to May 21, 2011 ( Why leave all churches? ). Yes, the elect brought judgment against all these churches by declaring that eternal salvation had come to an end in them as of May 21, 1988, and that no one would ever be eternally saved through them again, for judgment must begin with the house of God (1Peter 4:17).

Now, why does our verse say that the third part of the sea became blood. The third part of the sea, of course, symbolizes all the Christian churches in the world, and we are told that they became blood. Since blood inside the body symbolizes life, for the blood brings the nutrients the body needs for life, and blood outside body symbolizes death, for blood outside the body can no longer bring nutrients to the body which results in death, in that all the churches in the world became blood means that they all became death. No longer could someone be eternally saved through a church, but as the churches were overtaken by false gospels and teachings, the churches could only lead someone to death by bringing them into a false gospel or church wherein Satan was now at the helm, and where Christ and the elect had departed out from. Indeed, the third part of the sea (all the churches around the world) became blood, namely a place of death wherein no sinner could ever be eternally saved, and where the wages of his sin would surely bring death, for the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).

Revelation 8:9
:

9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed .

In this verse, we first read, And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died. Since the creatures which were in the sea refer to the people which were in the world because we already learned that the sea refers to the world, our verse is saying that the third part of the creatures, namely people which were in the world, and had life, died. And, since we already learned that the third part of the people which were in the world refers to all the churches worldwide, we are being told by our verse that all the churches and congregations worldwide that had life, died as a result of the elect bringing judgment against the house of God, which we know, according to the Biblical Timeline , took place during the Great Tribulation of judgment from May 21, 1988 to May 21, 2011.

But how did all the churches around the world die? Well, on May 21, 1988 the Holy Spirit removed Himself from all the churches, and this immediately caused all the churches to spiritually die, for it is the Holy Spirit that gives life to a church so that without Him a church is dead. And, seeing that the Holy Spirit removed Himself from all the churches worldwide, all the churches died on May 21, 1988, which bought an end to the Church Age.

We read about this time when the Holy Spirit would remove Himself from the corporate Church in 2Thessalonians 2 where we read,

3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day [the day of Christ] shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition ;
4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God
5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things ?
6
And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time .
7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way .
8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming
9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders ,
10
And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved .
11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie :
12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness .

Notice how we read in verse 7, For the mystery of iniquity does already work: only He who now lets will let, until He be taken out of the way. This is speaking about the mystery of iniquity, which was Satan working in the churches. Satan has always been allowed to work in the churches to some degree as he seeded the churches with unsaved people and false doctrines, and God, the Holy Spirit, allowed this, which is why we read that He who now lets will let. You see, it is God who let Satan continue to work to some degree in all the churches until the time would come when God would give all the churches completely over to Satan as judgment against them by God removing Himself from them so that Satan who is also called the Man of Sin (verse 3) would gain complete rule over them. This is why we read that he [God, the Holy Spirit] who now lets will let, until he [God, the Holy Spirit] be taken out of the way. That is, God would allow the mystery of iniquity (Satan) to work in all the churches until He [God, the Holy Spirit] be taken away out of the midst of all the churches, and then shall that Wicked [One] be revealed (verse 8) which is Satan ruling over all the churches (see Who is the Antichrist and listen to 2Thes. 2:1-11 - the Man of Sin ).

Thus we see how all the churches died on May 21, 1988: it was by Christ, the Holy Spirit, removing himself from the midst of all the churches which brought an end to the Church Age, and it allowed Satan to take over all the churches so that he as God [sat] in the temple of God [the churches], shewing himself that he is God (2Thes. 2:4). But Satan's rule over all the churches came to an end on May 21, 2011 when Satan was deposed, and the dead churches were permitted to go their own ways without Christ while still remaining under the judgment of God.

Now, our verse concludes with this: and the third part of the ships were destroyed. We know what the third part refers to, but what do the ships refer to? When we think of ships, we realize that it is with ships or boats whereby we go out to sea to catch fish. Likewise, it was in groups of believers whereby we once went out to the world to catch people by the gospel. Thus, ships in the Bible can represent groups of believers who are sent out into the world to catch people with the gospel. This means that every church that spread the gospel was a ship sent into the world to spread the gospel. So, when our verse says that the third part of the ships were destroyed, it means that the third part of all the churches were destroyed. And, because the third part of all the churches symbolizes all the churches worldwide, we are being told that all the churches worldwide were destroyed. They were not physically destroyed, but they were spiritually destroyed by Satan who was used of God to bring judgment against the house of God. Christ had removed Himself from all local churches and congregations around the world beginning on May 21, 1988, and then Satan took them all over to lead them into false gospels and teachings to be completely spiritually destroyed during the Great Tribulation.

Well, we have but four more verses to complete Revelation Chapter 8, and I will leave them to our next study. So, at this time, let's summarize and conclude this study as we look forward to our next study.

SUMMARY & CONCLUSION

In this study of Revelation 8:7-9, the 1st and 2nd angels sounded their trumpets to bring judgment against the Church. Both angels are a picture of the elect who declared the Word of God against all the Christian churches during the Great Tribulation from May 21, 1988 to May 21, 2011: who declared that eternal salvation came to an end in all the churches, and that all the churches were given over to the counterfeit Christ, the Antichrist, the Man of Sin, Satan who came with his false gospels and teachings so that the true elect obeyed Christ's command to depart out from their midst even as Christ, the Holy Spirit, departed out from the midst all the churches beginning May 21, 1988 when the Great Spiritual Tribulation began.

Now, we were told that the 1st angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up. And, in relation to this, the hail and fire mingled with blood, we found, is the symbolism for the judgment with death which was cast upon the earth to burn up the third part of the trees and all green grass, which two things we found to refer to all the churches worldwide. They were not physically burned up to death, but they were spiritually burned up to death when, as judgment against them, Christ, the Holy Spirit, departed out from all the churches to leave them spiritually dead, and the counterfeit Christ, the Man of Sin, the Antichrist, Satan was given complete rule over them to lead them into false gospels and teachings which could not save, but which could only condemn all who followed them.

But, then, we read that the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; and the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed. And, with relation to this, the great mountain burning with fire that was cast into the sea, we found to be a picture of the kingdom of God that brought judgment into the world during the Great Tribulation that resulted in the third part of the sea becoming blood, and the third part of the creatures that were in the sea, and had life having died, and the third part of the ships having been destroyed. All of this, we learned, symbolized the spiritual death and destruction of all the local Christian churches and congregations around the world on May 21, 1988 when Christ the Holy Spirit removed Himself from the midst of them all, and handed the rulership of them all over to the Man of sin, the counterfeit Christ, the Antichrist, Satan Himself who then spiritually destroyed all the churches by false gospels and teachings, which was the Great Tribulation that took place on the earth until Judgment Day itself began on May 21, 2011, and the whole entire world came under God's wrath of there no longer being any possibility of being eternally saved ever again. Never again would Christ return to the churches, or to the world, to bring eternal salvation to anyone, which means that all the billions of people who were not eternally saved by Christ by May 21, 2011, and all the millions upon millions of people conceived and born after May 21, 2011, are all guaranteed to die in their sins and never experience life again when on the Last Day they must all stand before Christ to be cast into the Lake of Fire.

Now, with that, may the LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace .
